Power Supply Problem?

Aug 4, 2011 2:16 AM by Discussion: PC Hardware

Hey Everyone,

First of all, I apologize for not being as lively around here. I still check in to see what's going on, I just haven't had the time to be as active in the community.

Anyway, I recently built a computer and it just died on me! It shut down randomly a few times, and now I can't get it to start at all. The event log said the computer lost power unexpectedly (no stop code error). I figured maybe it was just a fluke with my new power supply, or maybe I have something plugged into the motherboard wrong.

Here's the specs:

Intel i7 2600 3.4Ghz processor

16 gb Corsair 1600 Mhz DDR3 RAM

ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe LGA 1155 Motherboard

EVGA Superclocked GeForce GTX 570 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 Graphics Card

Corsair GS800 800W Power Supply - LINK

And a hard drive, dvd drive, all that other crap.

So when I plug the Power Supply in, some lights on the motherboard turn on, but the fan in the PS doesn't run or anything like that.

Any ideas on what I may have done wrong? Or what I might be able to do?

Or is my Power Supply a piece of junk and I should return it for a better one?  [e digicons]:'([/e]

I really appreciate any help I can get from you guys. This is my first time building a REAL computer - and I'm kinda bummed that it only lasted a week haha.

Thanks everyone!  [e digicons][/e]

....is it possible?

Apr 20, 2011 2:10 AM by Discussion: Icons

Hey everyone,

I was just wondering, is it possible to disable live folders (folders with images in them), but keep image thumbnails? I'm using a custom icon pack I made but I don't have live folders so I disabled thumbnails because it's the only way I know how to disable live folders.

The only problem is you can't preview image files with thumbnails disabled, which is kinda inconvenient. Is there any way to disable live folders but keep the thumbnail images in explorer? Can this be done in iconpackager? Any help would be great! [e digicons]:)[/e]

Thanks,

G3

If you have nothing better to do, or maybe you do but don't want to do it

Mar 10, 2011 2:17 PM by Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Fun Facts for the day!! I would be an example of a person with something better to do, but I don't want to do it. (eh-herm, studying genetics) If you haven't figured it out already, yes, I have to wake up early on Thursdays and I get bored easily.

Here we go!

-More than ten people a year are killed by vending machines.  (yeah, that's a pizza vending machine, what are you gonna do about it?)

-All of the digital data in the world is equivalent to one human brain.

-In a very early draft of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones carried brass knuckles instead of a bullwhip.

-The lion used in the original MGM movie logo killed its trainer and two assistants the day after the logo was filmed.

-The character of Optimus Prime on the popular 1980s animated television series "Transformers" was originally written to speak with a Jamaican accent. (WTF weird gray text??!! Fine.)

-Buzz Aldrin left a Playboy magazine on the surface of the moon.

-Pollen can travel up to 500 miles in a day. (I didn't feel like doing a image search for pollen, SHUT UP.)

-Each year, there are more than 40,000 toilet related injuries in the United States.

-The word 'News' is actually an acronym standing for the 4 cardinal compass points - North, East, West, and South (sigh, who cares.)

-The chances of you dying on the way to get your lottery tickets is greater than your chances of winning. (it's probably higher after you pick up your winnings....)

-The can opener was invented 48 years after the can.

-Some people don't know the difference between a can opener and a rubber duck. (Okay, that's probably not true....maybe, but at this point people are probably just looking at pictures and not reading anything I'm typing.) (Fun picture anyway!)

-If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days, you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.

-Hippo milk is pink. (Does that mean it's strawberry flavor??)

-President George W. Bush was once a cheerleader!

-In Chinese, the KFC slogan "finger lickin' good" translates to "eat your fingers off". (The other other white meat....)

-The U.S. Government spent $277,000 on pickle research in 1993.(I don't like pickles...but I DO like Hawaiian Punch.) If you like pickles GTFO , naw it's okay if you like pickles.

-The moon is actually moving away from Earth at a rate of 1.5 inches per year. (Fine moon I didn't like you either.)

-Thats......creepy.

-Research indicates that plants grow healthier when they are stroked. (......pfft....HA!)

-In Natoma, Kansas, it's illegal to throw knives at men wearing striped suits. (So....its legal to throw them at everyone else?)

The creator of the NIKE Swoosh symbol was paid only $35 for the design.

You can't plow a cotton field with an elephant in North Carolina, well you can but it's illegal, so PLOW SOMETHING ELSE WITH YOUR ELEPHANT!

.....that's an elephant.

Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour.

-Last fun fact: You want to add more fun facts to this? Okay, well UR NOT ALLOWED. No, I'm kidding, add more, I don't care, do whatever you want, just try not to use too many commas, okay, cause, yeah, that would be bad.

-Why should I care?

-What is the purpose of this post?

I DON'T KNOW STOP ASKING QUESTIONS!!! Just relax and enjoy your Thursday.

Please Help

Jan 18, 2011 5:23 PM by Discussion: Stardock Support General

I haven't used soundpackager in a long time, but I HAVE used it before without problems. I tried starting it this morning, and it keeps closing. I'm running windows 7 64-bit, and like I said before, I have used this program before on my computer without problems. I tried uninstalling, and reinstalling but that didn't help. I also tried compatibility mode, and closing other programs that might conflict.

Any other ideas of what I could do?

Thanks in advance, everyone. [e digicons]:)[/e]

To crack your passwords

Jan 11, 2011 11:32 PM by Discussion: Personal Computing

Hey Everyone,

I was reading Doc's recent post on passwords you shouldn't use, when I remembered this tool which calculates how long it would take to crack your password. It's safe to use, it was featured on gizmodo, and if you want to be reassured, read here. Some passwords only take a fraction of a second, and others can take years!

I have passwords ranging from 5 hours to 10 million years.

It's kind of a fun and useful tool to use, post your results if you want to share how good/bad your password is!

based on the popular metro UI

Dec 9, 2010 4:43 AM by Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

Hello everyone,

I've been getting kind of frustrated with my last WIP, ClearGem (even though it's close to being finished), so I started a new project. I've always liked the GUI of Zune software as well as the new Windows phone UI. This inspired me to create a theme, based on the Metro style. It's very simplistic, but usable. I feel like I'm off to a good start with this one, I haven't come across any problems yet. However, it's probably going to be a while before I finish it - I've been working on ClearGem off and on for about 8 months now.

Here's a preview, I would appreciate some feedback from the community. Thanks!

Life finds a way

Dec 2, 2010 8:35 PM by Discussion: Community

As Jeff Goldblum said in the movie, Jurassic Park -

"No, I'm simply saying that life, uh... finds a way."

Well if anyone saw NASA's announcement today, he was very correct. NASA has discovered a new life form—called GFAJ-1—that doesn't share the biological building blocks of anything currently living in planet Earth, using arsenic to build its DNA, RNA, proteins, and cell membranes. This changes everything! I mean, I'm a biology student focusing on genetics so I might as well start my degree over again!!

The press conference is over, but this is just extraordinary news! It shows how little we really know about life and the universe. It's not extra-terrestrial life, but it certainly changes the way we're going to look for ET. This discovery will drastically effect the drake equation and the chances of life in space.......And that's without counting yesterday's announcement on the discovery of a massive number of red dwarf stars, which may harbor a trillion Earths - READ ABOUT THAT.

So lets hear what everyone thinks! I'm really excited about this discovery and I want some feedback from the great Wincustomize community!
